The Battle.net Season 7 Global Finals at BlizzCon might not have ended as most of us wanted and that was to see Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen win. Blizzard's tournament did however end better for him compare to last year and to round the event off he made a very emotional announcement that shed tears in some of our eyes. For Manuel Schenkhuizen, this will be a BlizzCon that not only him but those who saw and experienced it will remember for a long time.
From nowhere to Dual Silver
Grubby has been to every single Battle.net global finals at BlizzCon, except for last year. That was a big shock for a lot of people, to see him fall so early in the tour. His fall however did lead to the rise of a few European players, but it was him that the community wanted to see and not the others. 2008 wasn't a bad year for him but also not the greatest and it put a lot of doubts whether or not he would be able to make a comeback the year afterwards.
March 2009 - Blizzard announces their tournament series ones again and Grubby with a lot of motivation to make up for his disappointment from last year. Although the great thing about this year was that he was keeping us up to date with his progress. It is something he felt that he not only wanted to do but had to do. He provided live video stream and also small updates. After a month of playing a lot of ladder games, he placed second next to LucifroN in the Ladder.
At the regionals, Grubby made it exactly where everyone expected him to get in the winner bracket finals and the Grand finals. Unfortunately there was a consolation final included as well.

Grubby places second at the European regional finals.
The tournament at one point was all about him trying to beat LucifroN for first place. The first time he wasn’t successful and was sent to the losers’ bracket. The second time he manages to beat him but that only forced his match against LucifroN to second a best-of-3 and sadly he lost that one placing him second at the regional finals.
After placing second at the regionals, it would have been really great to see him place first at the global finals. But unfortunately things don't always end as you want them to be and he ended in second place again. The story is almost like the regionals, only this time his nemisis was the defending champion, June 'Lyn' Park.

Lyn was the player to beat at BlizzCon as LucifroN was at the regionals. But no matter how hard Grubby tried, he just could not get passed him. He managed to beat all the other players he had to face but ended up losing both encounters to Lyn and placed second ones again.
Although it might not be what he would have wanted, compare to last year where he did not even make it passed the regionals, Battle.net Season 7 did end a whole lot better for him. He managed to get two silver medals, beat some of the best players from the Unites States, Europe and Korea and also his fans got to see him play at one of the most prestigious Warcraft 3 tournaments of all time.
Second place at BlizzCon 2009. First place eSports award 2009
On the same day as BlizzCon, elsewhere around the globe, ESL was announcing the winners of the esports 2009 award. Grubby was not only nominated for best western European regional player but also the best Warcraft 3 player. He ended up being the runner-up for best western European regional player.

Minutes after the Grand Finals of BlizzCon 2009, the results of the eSports awards were in and with great surprise, Grubby won the award for best Warcraft 3 player of 2009. Compare to last year this one has certainly been a better year. No matter how ironic it may have been, the timing was somewhat perfect, as Grubby lost and won right afterwards.
Grubby’s accomplishments this year so far:
2nd place - Extreme Masters III
1st place - Zotac Cup #80
1st place - EPS Benelux Season 2
1st place - Zotac Cup #88
3rd place - WC3L Season 15 (with Happy)
2nd place - Blizzard Battle.net Season 7 European regionals
1st place - e-Stars 2009 King of the Game

She said “yes”
Grubby is known for not only being one of the best Orc players, where he received the title as the King of Orcs, but also being one of the most accomplished Warcraft 3 players of all time. Except for that, there is one person who is known to always be around him and that is Cassandra ‘Cassandra’ Ng, team manager of Evil Geniuses Warcraft 3 team. Not only is she his team manager, but was for some time now his girlfriend.
The two of them have been through a lot together, facing every challenge they came across. From the disbandment of the legendary Four Kings, to the release and downfall of MeetYourMakers to a new beginning with the team of Evil Geniuses.
Manuel proposed to Cassandra at BlizzCon 2009.
On the final day of BlizzCon, after they finished handing out prizes, Grubby had a special announcement to make. Special announcements when it comes to Warcraft 3 players have usually ended in them retiring. But since Grubby has no intentions of doing that, it is not what happened. Instead he proposed to the woman he loves in front of the live audience, the very own community they are a part of. As sudden as it might have been for her, Cassandra accepted his marriage proposal.
On that day, Grubby might not have won the Warcraft 3 tournament but he still walked out as a winner from the event. myEG.net would like to congratulate both Manuel Schenkhuizen and Cassandra Ng on their engagement and also wish them the best in their future. May their love last forever.
Feel free to post a comment and congratulate Grubby and Cassandra. Stay tuned on myEG.net for the latest news and updates on EG.WC3. Check out the Evil Geniuses Twitter for more updates.
