It's time for yet another blog and due to lack of interesting things happening in the past week I'll just focus on the Lethal Gamers tournament that took place yesterday in Garland, TX.
Before that I'll do a quick review of the week for EG though - We had two matches for ESEA on Nuke, and were supposed to play coL for CEVO on Dust2 but they decided to reschedule. First we took on the absolute joke of whole ESEA-I, or as someone in our match comments put it, a 'glorified circus', also known as Exigent. I really have no idea why these guys are still allowed in ESEA-I, I'm sure ESEA has rules in place like every other CS tournament that don't allow you to just throw matches for whatever reason. After our match (16-1) I took a minute to message the admins my opinion of the team and I think both Irukandji and cJ_B did the same, so hopefully at least they won't be around next season making the league look bad (why they paid to play is beyond my understanding anyways).
Later in the week we took on the team that just managed to beat both coL & ex-Loaded on Lite, undertow. I took a quick peek at their match against 9StorM on same map (Nuke) right before ours and noticed their CT side seemed weaker for them, so even though we were home team we decided to start as T's, which ended up being a good call as we quickly jumped on a 10-5 lead at half time before switching sides and ending the game with a comfortable 16-5 win, finally moving us above Excello in the rankings for the #1 spot in ESEA-I.
Tomorrow we'll have a double header versus coL (8CST) and Loaded (9CST, ex-i7/DW ft. evo) on Dust2 for week one of CEVO-P season 12, followed up with ESEA matches against ex-Loaded (Wed 9CST) and coL (Thu 9:30CST) on Inferno, so stay tuned to myEG.net for coverage and HLTV ip's as we take on the new coL twice within four days. We might also play a CEVO match versus Dynamic later on in the week on Russka but it's still unscheduled so we'll see if it happens or not.
As far as LG goes, it was a good event as usual with seven teams turning up this time and GotFrag surprisingly covering it (although their HLTV's were down). I went with a pug consisting of myself, bzrk, gosu, punkvillE & tuBBy, and we managed to live up to the expectations of being the favorites and win the tournament over teams like as 8bit (ESEA-M) and FYC (ESEA-M as well, although their season was ruined due to my roommate nemmy's Steam account being stolen and someone hacking on it on ESEA, thus overturning like five of their recent wins and making him unable to play) and FoA (11-1 ESEA-O team).
Waking up in the morning at 7:30am was fairly painful after being used to waking up somewhere between 10-12am everyday for the past two weeks since returning from California, but a good breakfast of egg/sausage omelet combined with a drinkable yogurt and orange juice made it alright. Unfortunately the weather in Dallas turned horrible a few days ago and it's been around 25-40 degrees outside which made it freezing inside LG (no heating), making it pretty hard to play at times (especially earlier in the morning before the place warmed up and we got a space heater to warm our hands with before matches).
During group stage Josh (punkvillE) had to go play a basketball game so we had Laurent (and at times some local TX player whose name/alias I tried to ask for without getting a response) step in as our fifth and we ended up losing against 8bit and playing a very close game versus the Rambo/Icesalmon pug, but as the group stage was only for seeding purposes it didn't really matter. We had a nice comeback against FYC on Mill where we were down 1-9 as CT, then ended the half at 4-11, won terrorist pistol round and lost the next save with only me surviving which put us down 5-12 with only one AK and ~2,3-3k money each, but we force bought and managed to come back to tie it up 15-15.
Group results:
22-8 vs FoA (11-1 ESEA-O team) on Inferno
28-2 vs sky on Dust2 (with Laurent/? playing)
17-13 vs bam (Rambo/Icesalmon pug) on Train (with Laurent/? playing)
10-20 vs 8bit (8-3 in ESEA-M) on Nuke (with Laurent/? playing)
15-15 vs FYC (10-1 in ESEA-M) on Mill
First in bracket play we were up against Mikey's (who's one of our roommates) pug, and we quickly beat them 16-1 on Inferno. Next casualty was FYC as we went up 14-1 on Dust2 T-side pretty much putting the game away, although they still won some rounds on the second half (16-7). In the upper bracket final we played 8bit on Train and it was actually looking really bad at a few times. We were up 3-2 on the terrorist half, but lost an eco (which then ruined our money situation and pretty much rest of the half) and then a 3v1 where no one was close enough to the bomb to kill the defuser in time. That put us down 5-10 at half point, but thanks to solid play on CT side we went up 15-11 when they came back with three rounds of their own before we closed the game 16-14.
After a few hours of waiting and the consolation final between FYC and 8bit taking ridiculously long (OT) we finally started playing 8bit on Nuke. I think we were up 8-1 at one point but started slacking (or they picked up their game) towards the end and changed sides at 9-6 (starting CT). On T side we lost the pistol round but bought AK's on the second round and managed to win, and then just grinded out the ecos and traded a few gun rounds, finishing the whole game 16-8 and winning the tournament, giving us $500 for our efforts.
Bracket play results:
16-1 vs nap (Mikey's pug) on Inferno
16-7 vs FYC on Dust2
16-14 vs 8bit on Train
16-8 vs 8bit on Nuke
This was the fourth team LG event that I've been to and I have to say Laurent does a great job hosting them and the setup (good comps and 19'' LCD's) is really good so next time there is one, everyone living around the area should definitely make a pug and come compete. It's a good way to gain some LAN experience and you will definitely have a lot of fun.
